Our Range of
Ales
Matthews brew two regular beers and a series of
seasonal and monthly specials. The regular beers
are Brassknocker and Bob Wall. Details of our seasonal specials
and monthly specials are provided below.
Matthews supply
cask ales direct to the pub trade and can deliver anywhere within a 40
mile
radius of the brewery. Orders can be placed
by
phoning us at the brewery (01761 472242) or by emailing us at brewery@matthewsbrewing.co.uk
. For other locations we work with a number of UK
distributors; please call to discuss.
Matthews
ales can be ordered by Enterprise, Admiral and Punch (Avebury) pubs via
the SIBA DDS in
our designated postcode areas.
Regular Beers

Brassknocker (3.8%ABV)
A Golden Ale with a citrus aroma full of fresh lemons and spicy orange zest.
The mouth is filled with vanilla malt and left with
a long and satisfying bitter finish. An
easy-drinking “session beer” with a character that you will find
refreshing at any time of year.
After being shortlisted for the Champion Beer of Britain
competition in August 2008, Brassknocker has, for the second year running, been named by
CAMRA as one of their
"Beers of the Year" in the
Good Beer Guide 2009.

Wall
(4.2%ABV) A Best Bitter, chestnut-coloured with
a subtle orange aroma combined with a hint of roast malt. It
has a rich and complex malt flavour, with
plum fruit qualities, which
persist in the mouth and combine with its bitterness to provide a deep
and satisfying finish.

Pit
Pony
(5.5%ABV) A cask-conditioned Dry
Stout with plenty of robust character. The roast malt and barley used
in Pit Pony produce a heady roast aroma suggesting coffee, dark
chocolate and hot-buttered toast. A full-bodied plum-fruit flavour
gives way to a deep and lasting warmth.

Monthly Specials
40 Yard
(5.0%ABV) A Strong Bitter with a difference:
brewed with mild ale malt to produce a darker and more full-bodied ale.
It is rich with robust flavours of ripe fruits, caramel and roast malt
that give way to a long, dry and well-rounded bitter finish. The aroma
is a tempting mix of chocolate and blackcurrant notes provided by the
combination of roast malt and English hops.

Strata Smith's
(4.8%ABV)
A recreation of a traditional Brown Ale style of beer using a blend of roast malts to produce a sweeter and milder
nut-brown ale.
Strata Smith or William Smith is sometimes referred to as the “father of modern geology”.
His inspiration came from descending the mine shaft at the nearby Mearns pit at High Littleton.

| Pit Head
(4.4%ABV) A dark reddish-black porter that draws you in with
a tempting aroma combining roast malt with classic English hops. Some initial sweetness gives way to a mouthfull
of berry fruit and roast malt flavours and a well-rounded bitter finish.

Davy Lamp
(5.0%ABV) A clear Wheat Ale, golden in colour, brewed with the addition of coriander and orange
zest. Coriander adds a delicate hint of spice to the fruity hop aroma
and creates a satisfying warmth in this ale's softer
finish. The tang of orange zest complements the wheat and barley malts'
biscuit and vanilla notes, producing a well-balanced and highly
quaffable ale. |

Tims Bier
(4.6%ABV) Pale amber in colour, Tims Bier is a
Mai Bock-style beer,
brewed with Munich Malt and a single variety of German hops. The juicy, biscuity Munich malt mingles with the fruity
tang of the hops to produce a gloriously refreshing springtime brew.

Pale
(4.5%ABV) A copper-amber coloured pale ale,
refreshing and light on the palate with a moreish flavour of biscuity
malt. The combination of English hop varieties used in this ale provide
both its delicate aroma and its well-rounded bitter finish. |

Perrink
(4.9%ABV)
A full-bodied premium bitter, chestnut-red in colour, with well-balanced malt flavours and
the aroma of classic English Goldings hops.

Conygre Gold
(5.0%ABV)
A Golden Ale, full-bodied yet with a soft finish and a delicately fruity German hop aroma.
Conygre Gold is the ideal summer pint - flavoursome and thirst quenching.

Honey Mine
(4.7%ABV)
Chestnut-honey coloured, this is a Dunkel Bock-style beer,
brewed with Munich Malt, German hops and plenty of added honey!
The honey is fermented along with the sugar produced from the malt, producing a clean yet full-bodied malty taste without excessive sweetness.
The aroma is a mix of fruity hops with warm honey overtones, which linger in the bitter finish.

Berry'd Treasure
(5.0%ABV)
This is a true harvest special. Finest Maris Otter pale malt and hand-picked whole berry fruits,
such as blackberries and elderberries, are combined to produce this autumn gold-coloured beer.
The berry fruits mingle with German hops to produce a deliciously fruity aroma and a subtle sweetness
that leads to a soft yet full-bodied finish.

Fire Works
(4.8%ABV) Originally
brewed to celebrate our first anniversary of brewing in Timsbury,
Fire Works is a pale ale flavoured with fresh root ginger. The
spicy tang of the ginger mingles with a delicate floral hop aroma and
combines with the bitter finish to produce an extremely moreish beer.

(5.3%ABV) A ruby-red
bitter ale with a festive aroma of mulling spices and smoked malt.

XA (Xmas Ale) brings you the taste of Christmas in a glass!

Bristol Champion
(4.5%ABV) A chestnut-gold ale, made with a blend of four classic English hop varieties. Bristol Champion has a fruity-spicy aroma and biscuity malt in the mouth. Some intial sweetness is balanced by a well-rounded and bitter finish.
Bristol Champion was specially brewed to celebrate the Hillgrove Porter Stores being named as Bristol CAMRA's Pub Of The Year 2007.
It was available exclusively in all Dawkins Taverns throughout the summer of 2007,
starting from the beginning of July. As well as the Hillgrove, these included the Victoria in Clifton and the Miners Arms in St Werburghs.
